A Pamper Night.

For some reason, my house was blessed with a huge, old and beautiful bath tub. I love pamper nights, sometimes we all just need an hour or so to unwind and disconnect from the rest of the word. Since Christmas, I have so many bath and body products that were given to me as presents that I hadn’t even opened. This seemed like a good opportunity to give some of them a try, seeing as my pamper night routine changes pretty much every time anyway.

First of all, I wash my hands, and then remove all makeup from my face and then run a hot bath. Being winter time, getting into a hot bath is just the most satisfying thing ever. Today I used a bath foam from French Connection, which was in a set that I was given at Christmas. The set is one of the gifts sold at Boots. Also in this set was a body butter and a candle, both of which I used this evening.

DSC_0216I used my old favourite face mask by Elizabeth’s Daughter, a small brand aimed at slightly younger (or sensitive) skin. For me, face masks often leave my skin red and irritated after having been removed; this one is more gentle so I always find myself reaching for it. I really loved the body scrub I used, it was by The Body Shop (“Vanilla Bliss Body Polish) – it was creamy and left my skin nicely exfoliated.

What are your pamper evening essentials?

Favourite MAC Eyeshadows.

If you are a beauty guru, you probably love MAC  eyeshadows and own a lot of them. I myself am no exception. Every since I gained an interest in makeup and beauty, I have been collecting them. For this post I decided to condense them into my four favourites.

Top left “Woodwinked”; top right “Charcoal Brown”; bottom left “Satin Taupe”; bottom right “Retrospeck”

You can probably tell that I’m a neutrals girl – bright colours scare (and don’t suit) me… I always find myself going back to my MAC eyeshadows as I have been using them for a while, and know the colours so well and what to do with them. As you can see they are all shimmer colours apart from the matt brown “Charcoal Brown”, which is great to put in the crease, and is also a good eyebrow colour.

Woodwinked” is a deep gold-orange colour, but more brown than yellow. I find this an easier alternative to a bright gold. It can be used as a simple day colour all over the lids, and in the evening often with a bit of “Charcoal Brown” in the crease and outer corners to make it more smokey. “Satin Taupe” is a neutral purple – well I say purple and it sounds a bit daunting, but it’s not really that purple, just has that ‘tinge’. It is such a pretty colour though and is so flattering on everyone. “Retrospeck” is similar in the way I wear it, its a light champagne colour, and not too yellow. So when I want a simple, shimmery look I love this one.

My Bedside Table.

Although over time my bedroom can get very messy, I do find great satisfaction in tidying, arranging and sorting things out. Only certain things, like my makeup, are constructed in specific ways. I realised that my bedside tables were not in good condition, and were one of those things that I would actually really like to be presentable. So I got to it.DSC_0183

My iPad is essential because it is so much easier than having a laptop readily available. Before bed I love watching YouTube videos and checking out my favourite blogs on it. You will always find Elizabeth Arden Eight Hour Cream here, especially in the winter – it really is a must have for dry lips and skin. I got the hand cream from The White Company White Lavendar Hand & Nail cream for Christmas and I have really enjoyed using it so far. It conveniently has a pump, so perfect for when you’re so tired before bed and don’t think you can be bothered to put hand cream on! I also have the Sally Hansen Maximum Growth clear nail varnish, just so I can quickly apply it whenever necessary. There is also a nail file on the far left, something every girl needs on her bedside table.

It’s not the most creative of bedside tables, however it’s better than it was before, and good enough for now!

Favourite Winter Lipsticks.

Although Christmas is over, winter makeup is still here, thankfully. I thought I’d share with you my current favourite lipsticks for this time of year, and yes, I did have to narrow it down a lot from how it started! So I’ve picked four, and conveniently two ended up being drugstore and the other two high-end.DSC_0172From right – left: Mac cremesheen “I love winter”, Nars sheer lipstick “Falbala”, Rimmel Kate Moss “19”, Revlon lip butter “Red Velvet”

In the winter darker colours are a must. I prefer these to lighter of the summer on myself. For a more everyday look, I love the Rimmel lipstick in “19” (third from left) because it is just a few shades darker than my natural lip colour, so it is not too bold, completely wearable how ever has that wintery feel to it still. “Falbala” by Nars is similar in the way I wear it however the colour is more brown and less red, so a nude alternative. It is sheer yet build-able. For when I’m feeling more outgoing, I reach for the Revlon lip butter in “red velvet”. This is a classic, romantic, beautiful deep red for winter. Lately I have been wearing it with very minimal makeup elsewhere, because I find it detracts attention from any flaws on the face because it is so bold. I tend to go for a really light coverage tinted moisturiser and just a bit of mascara on the top lashes. What is also great about this product is that it really doesn’t dry out the lips, in fact it pretty much feels like a lip balm. Unfortunately the MAC lipstick mentioned was limited edition a while ago and I haven’t seen it since, but I just had to put it in because it is one I really wear a lot…sorry! Hopefully MAC will bring it back one day…

P.S. In the photo above, I am aware that in my bio it says that this blog is on Blogger (blogspot) – I used to be on it but had some issues so later moved to here, WordPress (and transferred all old blog posts too).

Thanks 🙂

Review: Maybelline Color Tattoo 24hr cream gel eyeshadows.

These cream eyeshadows that can be used as a base for powder shadows on top or just on their own are becoming increasingly more and more popular. For me, I love cream eyeshadows as they are the only kind of product that seem to get along with my troublesomely oily eyelids, that have a great tendency to cause eyeshadows to crease. I bought these Maybelline ones in hope that they would be a great dupe for the much loved MAC paint pots, and other similar high-end products like the Stila smudge pots and Benefit creaseless cream shadows.

So, there are 12 colours in the range, and cost £4.99. I really like the colour options, and think that there is something for everybody’s tastes there. It is difficult just to buy one, especially as the price is so inexpensive…!

“Eternal Gold”, “Metallic Pomegranate” & “On and On Bronze”

The colour “Metallic Pomegranate” is the perfect colour for autumn and winter. It’s a deep pinky shimmer colour, however not the kind of pink that just ends up making your eyes look sore! It’s not a colour I would usually go for, but I’ve worn this one a few times now and have really loved it, surprisingly.

On and On Bronze” is so wearable. It’s a classic, shimmery bronze and isn’t too orangey. It’s the easiest colour to wear and is still so effective. Give it a go!

Eternal Gold” is perfect for a more special occasion. It is quite a bright, typical gold, yet still classy of course. These are so long lasting that this one would be perfect for a party or night out. Wear it on its own, or add definition and drama by swiping a matt brown or black shadow in the outer corners and crease.

Overall, I really love these, and it is very likely that some new colours will be slipping into my shopping bags in the near future. They are great quality, and for the price, there aren’t many reasons not to give them a go; and if you struggle with shadows staying in place and creasing, these will be your new best friend.

Everyday Makeup.

Hello again… So I thought I’d jump right in and show you what makeup products I use & how I do so most days at the moment. This is the kind of makeup I wear when I’ll be out doing something for the day, like meeting up with friends, going to London, shopping etc. Like most of us, I like to look “presentable” for these types of days. I try to go for a fairly natural makeup look, and keep to the neutrals most of the time. I use a light-medium coverage foundation, and no concealer generally as I prefer to wear one or the other just to avoid looking too made up, and to keep natural skin visible through the makeup. Then I’ll just set that with a powder, which will also take the shine down around the t-zone. I wear a matt bronzer probably half the time, as it is dependant on how much time I have, and how lazy I am feeling, ha. I tend to just pop a little in the hollows of the cheeks to contour slightly, and warm up the face by brushing it along the temples and neck, too. It is a product I can easily go without so often don’t actually bother. I have been enjoying wearing a sheer, shimmery champagne colour all over the eyelids. I have very oily eyelids and eyeshadow has a tendency to crease after a few hours, so I try to use cream eyeshadows as I find they last a lot longer on me. To finish the eyes, I add some mascara on the top lashes only. For everyday, I keep the lower lash line free of product as I find it keeps the face looking fresh and awake. Finally I’ll just put some nude lip gloss on and then dab the lips with tissue so that it’s not too shiny. –FoundationBenefit hello flawless oxygen wow (honey)

I usually use three brushes for this everyday makeup, which isn’t too many so it doesn’t get    complicated! The Real Techniques brushes are high street prices, which is always nice! When  I wear the Benefit bronzer, I either use the little brush that comes with it or just a side of the  powder brush, as this makes it all very easy.
